+ Saints: Blessed Thomas Tzugi

+ First Reading: 1 Corinthians 3:18-23

18 Let no one deceive himself. If anyone thinks that he is wise among you in this world, let him become a fool, that he may become wise.

19 For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, "He has taken the wise in their craftiness."*

20 And again, "The Lord knows the reasoning of the wise, that it is worthless."†

21 Therefore let no one boast in men. For all things are yours,

22 whether Paul, or Apollos, or Cephas, or the world, or life, or death, or things present, or things to come. All are yours,

23 and you are Christ's, and Christ is God's.

*3:19: Job 5:13

†3:20: Psalm 94:11

+ Psalm: Psalms 24:1bc-2, 3-4ab, 5-6

1bc (The earth is Yahweh's, with its fullness;)
the world, and those who dwell therein.

2 For he has founded it on the seas,
and established it on the floods.

3 Who may ascend to Yahweh's hill?
Who may stand in his holy place?

4 He who has clean hands and a pure heart;
who has not lifted up his soul to falsehood,
(and has not sworn deceitfully.)

5 He shall receive a blessing from Yahweh,
righteousness from the God of his salvation.

6 This is the generation of those who seek Him,
who seek your face—even Jacob.

Psalm: Psalms 37:3-4, 5-6, 27-28, 39-40

3 Trust in Yahweh, and do good.
Dwell in the land, and enjoy safe pasture.

4 Also delight yourself in Yahweh,
and he will give you the desires of your heart.

5 Commit your way to Yahweh.
Trust also in him, and he will do this:

6 he will make your righteousness go forth as the light,
and your justice as the noon day sun.

27 Depart from evil, and do good.
Live securely forever.

28 For Yahweh loves justice,
and doesn't forsake his saints.
They are preserved forever,
but the children of the wicked shall be cut off.

39 But the salvation of the righteous is from Yahweh.
He is their stronghold in the time of trouble.

40 Yahweh helps them, and rescues them.
He rescues them from the wicked, and saves them,
Because they have taken refuge in him.

+ Gospel: Luke 5:1-11

1 Now it happened, while the multitude pressed on him and heard the word of God, that he was standing by the lake of Gennesaret.

2 He saw two boats standing by the lake, but the fishermen had gone out of them, and were washing their nets.

3 He entered into one of the boats, which was Simon's, and asked him to put out a little from the land. He sat down and taught the multitudes from the boat.

4 When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, "Put out into the deep, and let down your nets for a catch."

5 Simon answered him, "Master, we worked all night, and took nothing; but at your word I will let down the net."

6 When they had done this, they caught a great multitude of fish, and their net was breaking.

7 They beckoned to their partners in the other boat, that they should come and help them. They came, and filled both boats, so that they began to sink.

8 But Simon Peter, when he saw it, fell down at Jesus' knees, saying, "Depart from me, for I am a sinful man, Lord."

9 For he was amazed, and all who were with him, at the catch of fish which they had caught;

10 and so also were James and John, sons of Zebedee, who were partners with Simon.
Jesus said to Simon, "Don't be afraid. From now on you will be catching people alive."

11 When they had brought their boats to land, they left everything, and followed him.

+ Today's Reading: 2 Timothy 2:1-21

1 You therefore, my child, be strengthened in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.

2 The things which you have heard from me among many witnesses, commit the same to faithful men, who will be able to teach others also.

3 You therefore must endure hardship, as a good soldier of Christ Jesus.

4 No soldier on duty entangles himself in the affairs of life, that he may please him who enrolled him as a soldier.

5 Also, if anyone competes in athletics, he isn't crowned unless he has competed by the rules.

6 The farmers who labor must be the first to get a share of the crops.

7 Consider what I say, and may the Lord give you understanding in all things.

8 Remember Jesus Christ, risen from the dead, of the seed of David, according to my Good News,

9 in which I suffer hardship to the point of chains as a criminal. But God's word isn't chained.

10 Therefore I endure all things for the chosen ones' sake, that they also may obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory.

11 This saying is faithful:
"For if we died with him,
we will also live with him.

12 If we endure,
we will also reign with him.
If we deny him,
he also will deny us.

13 If we are faithless,
he remains faithful.
He can't deny himself."

14 Remind them of these things, charging them in the sight of the Lord, that they don't argue about words, to no profit, to the subverting of those who hear.

15 Give diligence to present yourself approved by God, a workman who doesn't need to be ashamed, properly handling the Word of Truth.

16 But shun empty chatter, for it will go further in ungodliness,

17 and those words will consume like gangrene, of whom is Hymenaeus and Philetus;

18 men who have erred concerning the truth, saying that the resurrection is already past, and overthrowing the faith of some.

19 However God's firm foundation stands, having this seal, "The Lord knows those who are his,"* and, "Let every one who names the name of the Lord† depart from unrighteousness."

20 Now in a large house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of clay. Some are for honor, and some for dishonor.

21 If anyone therefore purges himself from these, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified, and suitable for the master's use, prepared for every good work.

†2:19: TR reads "Christ" instead of "the Lord"
