+ Saints: All Souls Day

-----

+ First Reading: The Wisdom Of Solomon 3:1-9

1 But the souls of the righteous are in the hand of God,
And no torment shall touch them.

2 In the eyes of the foolish they seemed to have died;
And their departure was accounted to be their hurt,

3 And their journeying away from us to be their ruin:
But they are in peace.

4 For even if in the sight of men they be punished,
Their hope is full of immortality;

5 And having borne a little chastening, they shall receive great good;
Because God made trial of them, and found them worthy of himself.

6 As gold in the furnace he proved them,
And as a whole burnt offering he accepted them.

7 And in the time of their visitation they shall shine forth,
And as sparks among stubble they shall run to and fro.

8 They shall judge nations, and have dominion over peoples;
And the Lord shall reign over them for evermore.

9 They that trust on him shall understand truth,
And * the faithful shall abide with him in love;
Because grace and mercy are to his chosen.

*3:9: Or, they that are faithful through love shall abide with him

+ Psalm: Psalms 23:1-6

1 Yahweh is my shepherd:
I shall lack nothing.

2 He makes me lie down in green pastures.
He leads me beside still waters.

3 He restores my soul.
He guides me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.

4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil, for you are with me.
Your rod and your staff,
they comfort me.

5 You prepare a table before me
in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil.
My cup runs over.

6 Surely goodness and loving kindness shall follow me all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in Yahweh's house forever.

+ Second Reading: Romans 5:5-11

5 and hope doesn't disappoint us, because God's love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us.

6 For while we were yet weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly.

7 For one will hardly die for a righteous man. Yet perhaps for a righteous person someone would even dare to die.

8 But God commends his own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

9 Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we will be saved from God's wrath through him.

10 For if, while we were enemies, we were reconciled to God through the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we will be saved by his life.

11 Not only so, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received the reconciliation.

+ Gospel: John 6:37-40

37 All those whom the Father gives me will come to me. He who comes to me I will in no way throw out.

38 For I have come down from heaven, not to do my own will, but the will of him who sent me.

39 This is the will of my Father who sent me, that of all he has given to me I should lose nothing, but should raise him up at the last day.

40 This is the will of the one who sent me, that everyone who sees the Son, and believes in him, should have eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day."

+ Today's Reading: 1 Corinthians 15:12-34

12 Now if Christ is preached, that he has been raised from the dead, how do some among you say that there is no resurrection of the dead?

13 But if there is no resurrection of the dead, neither has Christ been raised.

14 If Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is in vain, and your faith also is in vain.

15 Yes, we are found false witnesses of God, because we testified about God that he raised up Christ, whom he didn't raise up, if it is so that the dead are not raised.

16 For if the dead aren't raised, neither has Christ been raised.

17 If Christ has not been raised, your faith is vain; you are still in your sins.

18 Then they also who are fallen asleep in Christ have perished.

19 If we have only hoped in Christ in this life, we are of all men most pitiable.

20 But now Christ has been raised from the dead. He became the first fruits of those who are asleep.

21 For since death came by man, the resurrection of the dead also came by man.

22 For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ all will be made alive.

23 But each in his own order: Christ the first fruits, then those who are Christ's, at his coming.

24 Then the end comes, when he will deliver up the Kingdom to God, even the Father; when he will have abolished all rule and all authority and power.

25 For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet.

26 The last enemy that will be abolished is death.

27 For, "He put all things in subjection under his feet."☆ But when he says, "All things are put in subjection", it is evident that he is excepted who subjected all things to him.

28 When all things have been subjected to him, then the Son will also himself be subjected to him who subjected all things to him, that God may be all in all.

29 Or else what will they do who are baptized for the dead? If the dead aren't raised at all, why then are they baptized for the dead?

30 Why do we also stand in jeopardy every hour?

31 I affirm, by the boasting in you which I have in Christ Jesus our Lord, I die daily.

32 If I fought with animals at Ephesus for human purposes, what does it profit me? If the dead are not raised, then "let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die."☆

33 Don't be deceived! "Evil companionships corrupt good morals."

34 Wake up righteously, and don't sin, for some have no knowledge of God. I say this to your shame.
