+ Saints: St. Germaine Cousin

-----

+ First Reading: Hosea 11:1, 3-4, 8c-9

1 "When Israel was a child, then I loved him,
and called my son out of Egypt.

3 Yet I taught Ephraim to walk.
I took them by his arms;
but they didn't know that I healed them.

4 I drew them with cords of a man, with ties of love;
and I was to them like those who lift up the yoke on their necks;
and I bent down to him and I fed him.

8c My heart is turned within me,
my compassion is aroused.

9 I will not execute the fierceness of my anger.
I will not return to destroy Ephraim:
for I am God, and not man; the Holy One among you;
and I will not come in wrath.

+ Psalm: Isaiah 12:2-3, 4, 5-6.

2 Behold, God is my salvation. I will trust, and will not be afraid; for Yah, Yahweh, is my strength and song; and he has become my salvation."

3 Therefore with joy you will draw water out of the wells of salvation.

4 In that day you will say, "Give thanks to Yahweh! Call on his name. Declare his doings among the peoples. Proclaim that his name is exalted!

5 Sing to Yahweh, for he has done excellent things! Let this be known in all the earth!

6 Cry aloud and shout, you inhabitant of Zion; for the Holy One of Israel is great among you!"

+ Second Reading: Ephesians 3:8-12, 14-19

8 To me, the very least of all saints, was this grace given, to preach to the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ,

9 and to make all men see what is the administration*TR reads "fellowship" instead of "administration"of the mystery which for ages has been hidden in God, who created all things through Jesus Christ;

10 to the intent that now through the assembly the manifold wisdom of God might be made known to the principalities and the powers in the heavenly places,

11 according to the eternal purpose which he purposed in Christ Jesus our Lord;

12 in whom we have boldness and access in confidence through our faith in him

14 For this cause, I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,

15 from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named,

16 that he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, that you may be strengthened with power through his Spirit in the inward man;

17 that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; to the end that you, being rooted and grounded in love,

18 may be strengthened to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth,

19 and to know Christ's love which surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.

+ Gospel: John 19:31-37

31 Therefore the Jews, because it was the Preparation Day, so that the bodies wouldn't remain on the cross on the Sabbath (for that Sabbath was a special one), asked of Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away.

32 Therefore the soldiers came, and broke the legs of the first, and of the other who was crucified with him;

33 but when they came to Jesus, and saw that he was already dead, they didn't break his legs.

34 However one of the soldiers pierced his side with a spear, and immediately blood and water came out.

35 He who has seen has testified, and his testimony is true. He knows that he tells the truth, that you may believe.

36 For these things happened, that the Scripture might be fulfilled, "A bone of him will not be broken."☆Exodus 12:46; Numbers 9:12; Psalm 34:20

37 Again another Scripture says, "They will look on him whom they pierced."☆Zechariah 12:10

☆19:36: Exodus 12:46; Numbers 9:12; Psalm 34:20

☆19:37:Zechariah 12:10

+ Today's Reading: Romans 8:28-39

28 We know that all things work together for good for those who love God, to those who are called according to his purpose.

29 For whom he foreknew, he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers.‡The word for "brothers" here and where context allows may also be correctly translated "brothers and sisters" or "siblings."

30 Whom he predestined, those he also called. Whom he called, those he also justified. Whom he justified, those he also glorified.

31 What then shall we say about these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?

32 He who didn't spare his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how would he not also with him freely give us all things?

33 Who could bring a charge against God's chosen ones? It is God who justifies.

34 Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died, yes rather, who was raised from the dead, who is at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us.

35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Could oppression, or anguish, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?

36 Even as it is written, "For your sake we are killed all day long. We were accounted as sheep for the slaughter."☆Psalm 44:22

37 No, in all these things, we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.

38 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers,

39 nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

‡8:29: The word for "brothers" here and where context allows may also be correctly translated "brothers and sisters" or "siblings."

☆8:36: Psalm 44:22
