+ First Reading: 2 Thessalonians 1:1-5、11b-12

1 Paul, Silvanus, and Timothy, to the assembly of the Thessalonians in God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ:

2 Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

3 We are bound to always give thanks to God for you, brothers,*The word for "brothers" here and where context allows may also be correctly translated "brothers and sisters" or "siblings." even as it is appropriate, because your faith grows exceedingly, and the love of each and every one of you towards one another abounds;

4 so that we ourselves boast about you in the assemblies of God for your patience and faith in all your persecutions and in the afflictions which you endure.

5 This is an obvious sign of the righteous judgment of God, to the end that you may be counted worthy of the Kingdom of God, for which you also suffer.

11b and fulfill every desire of goodness and work of faith, with power;

12 that the name of our Lord Jesus†TR adds "Christ" may be glorified in you, and you in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.

*1:3: The word for "brothers" here and where context allows may also be correctly translated "brothers and sisters" or "siblings."

†1:12: TR adds "Christ"

+ Psalm: Psalms 96:1-5

1 Sing to Yahweh a new song!
Sing to Yahweh, all the earth.

2 Sing to Yahweh!
Bless his name!
Proclaim his salvation from day to day!

3 Declare his glory among the nations,
his marvelous works among all the peoples.

4 For great is Yahweh, and greatly to be praised!
He is to be feared above all gods.

5 For all the gods of the peoples are idols,
but Yahweh made the heavens.

+ Gospel: Matthew 23:13-22

13 "Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you devour widows' houses, and as a pretense you make long prayers. Therefore you will receive greater condemnation.

14 "But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! Because you shut up the Kingdom of Heaven against men; for you don't enter in yourselves, neither do you allow those who are entering in to enter.‡Some Greek manuscripts reverse the order of verses 13 and 14, and some omit verse 13, numbering verse 14 as 13.

15 Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you travel around by sea and land to make one proselyte; and when he becomes one, you make him twice as much of a son of Gehenna§or, Hellas yourselves.

16 "Woe to you, you blind guides, who say, 'Whoever swears by the temple, it is nothing; but whoever swears by the gold of the temple, he is obligated.'

17 You blind fools! For which is greater, the gold, or the temple that sanctifies the gold?

18 'Whoever swears by the altar, it is nothing; but whoever swears by the gift that is on it, he is obligated?'

19 You blind fools! For which is greater, the gift, or the altar that sanctifies the gift?

20 He therefore who swears by the altar, swears by it, and by everything on it.

21 He who swears by the temple, swears by it, and by him who was living**NU reads "lives"in it.

22 He who swears by heaven, swears by the throne of God, and by him who sits on it.

+ Today's Reading: Titus 2:1-3:2

2:1 But say the things which fit sound doctrine,

2 that older men should be temperate, sensible, sober minded, sound in faith, in love, and in patience:

3 and that older women likewise be reverent in behavior, not slanderers nor enslaved to much wine, teachers of that which is good;

4 that they may train the young women to love their husbands, to love their children,

5 to be sober minded, chaste, workers at home, kind, being in subjection to their own husbands, that God's word may not be blasphemed.

6 Likewise, exhort the younger men to be sober minded;

7 in all things showing yourself an example of good works; in your teaching showing integrity, seriousness, incorruptibility,

8 and soundness of speech that can't be condemned; that he who opposes you may be ashamed, having no evil thing to say about us.

9 Exhort servants to be in subjection to their own masters, and to be well-pleasing in all things; not contradicting;

10 not stealing, but showing all good fidelity; that they may adorn the doctrine of God, our Savior, in all things.

11 For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all men,

12 instructing us to the intent that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we would live soberly, righteously, and godly in this present world;

13 looking for the blessed hope and appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ;

14 who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify for himself a people for his own possession, zealous for good works.

15 Say these things and exhort and reprove with all authority. Let no man despise you.

3:1 Remind them to be in subjection to rulers and to authorities, to be obedient, to be ready for every good work,

2 to speak evil of no one, not to be contentious, to be gentle, showing all humility toward all men.
