Today's Bible story

June 19, 2016

We hope that today is a good day.

Twelfth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Gospel: Luke 9:18-24

18 As he was praying alone, the disciples were with him, and he asked them, "Who do the multitudes say that I am?"

19 They answered, "'John the Baptiser,' but others say, 'Elijah,' and others, that one of the old prophets is risen again."

20 He said to them, "But who do you say that I am?"

Peter answered, "The Christ of God."

21 But he warned them, and commanded them to tell this to no one,

22 saying, "The Son of Man must suffer many things, and be rejected by the elders, chief priests, and scribes, and be killed, and the third day be raised up."

23 He said to all, "If anyone desires to come after me, let him deny himself, take up his cross,† and follow me.

24 For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever will lose his life for my sake, the same will save it.

Zechariah 12:10-11; 13:1

12:10 I will pour on David's house, and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplication; and they will look to me* whom they have pierced; and they shall mourn for him, as one mourns for his only son, and will grieve bitterly for him, as one grieves for his firstborn.

11 In that day there will be a great mourning in Jerusalem, like the mourning of Hadadrimmon in the valley of Megiddon.

13:1 "In that day there will be a spring opened to David's house and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, for sin and for uncleanness.

*12:10: After "me", the Hebrew has the two letters "Aleph Tav" (the first and last letters of the Hebrew alphabet), not as a word, but as a grammatical marker.

Galatians 3:26-29

26 For you are all children of God, through faith in Christ Jesus.

27 For as many of you as were baptised into Christ have put on Christ.

28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free man, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus.

29 If you are Christ's, then you are Abraham's offspring** and heirs according to promise.

**3:29: or, seed
