I hope that you have a nice day today too.

Gospel : Mark 1:1-8
1 The beginning of the Good News of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.
2 As it is written in the prophets,
"Behold,* I send my messenger before your face,
who will prepare your way before you:☆
3 the voice of one crying in the wilderness,
'Make ready the way of the Lord!
Make his paths straight!'"☆
4 John came baptising† in the wilderness and preaching the baptism of repentance for forgiveness of sins.
5 All the country of Judea and all those of Jerusalem went out to him. They were baptised by him in the Jordan river, confessing their sins.
6 John was clothed with camel's hair and a leather belt around his waist. He ate locusts and wild honey.
7 He preached, saying, "After me comes he who is mightier than I, the thong of whose sandals I am not worthy to stoop down and loosen.
8 I baptised you in‡ water, but he will baptise you in the Holy Spirit."
*1:2: "Behold", from "?δο?", means look at, take notice, observe, see, or gaze at. It is often used as an interjection.
☆1:2: Malachi 3:1
☆1:3: Isaiah 40:3
†1:4: or, immersing
‡1:8: The Greek word (en) translated here as "in" could also be translated as "with" in some contexts.

Isaiah 40:1-5, 9-11
1 The vision of Isaiah the son of Amoz, which he saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem, in the days of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah.
2 Hear, heavens,
and listen, earth; for the LORD* has spoken:
"I have nourished and brought up children,
and they have rebelled against me.
3 The ox knows his owner,
and the donkey his master's crib;
but Israel doesn't know,
my people don't consider."
4 Ah sinful nation,
a people loaded with iniquity,
offspring† of evildoers,
children who deal corruptly!
They have forsaken the LORD.
They have despised the Holy One of Israel.
They are estranged and backward.
5 Why should you be beaten more,
that you revolt more and more?
The whole head is sick,
and the whole heart faint.
9 Unless the LORD of Armies had left to us a very small remnant,
we would have been as Sodom;
we would have been like Gomorrah.
10 Hear the LORD's word, you rulers of Sodom!
Listen to the law of our God,‡ you people of Gomorrah!
11 "What are the multitude of your sacrifices to me?", says the LORD.
"I have had enough of the burnt offerings of rams,
and the fat of fed animals.
I don't delight in the blood of bulls,
or of lambs,
or of male goats.
*1:2: When rendered in ALL CAPITAL LETTERS, "LORD" or "GOD" is the translation of God's Proper Name.
†1:4: or, seed
‡1:10: The Hebrew word rendered "God" is "?????????" (Elohim).

2 Peter 3:8-14
8 But don't forget this one thing, beloved, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.
9 The Lord is not slow concerning his promise, as some count slowness; but is patient with us, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will be dissolved with fervent heat, and the earth and the works that are in it will be burnt up.
11 Therefore since all these things will be destroyed like this, what kind of people ought you to be in holy living and godliness,
12 looking for and earnestly desiring the coming of the day of God, which will cause the burning heavens to be dissolved, and the elements will melt with fervent heat?
13 But, according to his promise, we look for new heavens and a new earth, in which righteousness dwells.
14 Therefore, beloved, seeing that you look for these things, be diligent to be found in peace, without defect and blameless in his sight.
