+ Saints: Vigil of Christmas

+ First Reading: 2 Samuel 7:1-5, 8b-12, 14a, 16

サムエル記下(7:1-5、8b-12、14a、16)

1 When the king lived in his house, and Yahweh had given him rest from all his enemies all around,

2 the king said to Nathan the prophet, "See now, I dwell in a house of cedar, but God's ark dwells within curtains."

3 Nathan said to the king, "Go, do all that is in your heart; for Yahweh is with you."

4 That same night, Yahweh's word came to Nathan, saying,

5 "Go and tell my servant David, 'Yahweh says, "Should you build me a house for me to dwell in?

8b (Now therefore tell my servant David this, 'Yahweh of Armies says, )"I took you from the sheep pen, from following the sheep, to be prince over my people, over Israel.

9 I have been with you wherever you went, and have cut off all your enemies from before you. I will make you a great name, like the name of the great ones who are in the earth.

10 I will appoint a place for my people Israel, and will plant them, that they may dwell in their own place, and be moved no more. The children of wickedness will not afflict them any more, as at the first,

11 and as from the day that I commanded judges to be over my people Israel. I will cause you to rest from all your enemies. Moreover Yahweh tells you that Yahweh will make you a house.

12 When your days are fulfilled, and you sleep with your fathers, I will set up your offspring*or, seed after you, who will proceed out of your body, and I will establish his kingdom.

14a I will be his father, and he will be my son. (If he commits iniquity, I will chasten him with the rod of men, and with the stripes of the children of men; )

16 Your house and your kingdom will be made sure forever before you. Your throne will be established forever."'"

+ Psalms 89:1-2, 3-4, 26 and 28

1 I will sing of the loving kindness of Yahweh forever.
With my mouth, I will make known your faithfulness to all generations.

2 I indeed declare, "Love stands firm forever.
You established the heavens.
Your faithfulness is in them."

3 "I have made a covenant with my chosen one,
I have sworn to David, my servant,

4 'I will establish your offspring* forever,
and build up your throne to all generations.'"

26 He will call to me, 'You are my Father,
my God, and the rock of my salvation!'

28 I will keep my loving kindness for him forever more.
My covenant will stand firm with him.

+ Gospel: Luke 1:67-79

67 His father, Zacharias, was filled with the Holy Spirit, and prophesied, saying,

68 "Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel,
for he has visited and redeemed his people;

69 and has raised up a horn of salvation for us in the house of his servant David

70 (as he spoke by the mouth of his holy prophets who have been from of old),

71 salvation from our enemies, and from the hand of all who hate us;

72 to show mercy towards our fathers,
to remember his holy covenant,

73 the oath which he spoke to Abraham, our father,

74 to grant to us that we, being delivered out of the hand of our enemies,
should serve him without fear,

75 In holiness and righteousness before him all the days of our life.

76 And you, child, will be called a prophet of the Most High,
for you will go before the face of the Lord to prepare his ways,

77 to give knowledge of salvation to his people by the remission of their sins,

78 because of the tender mercy of our God,
whereby the dawn from on high will visit us,

79 to shine on those who sit in darkness and the shadow of death;
to guide our feet into the way of peace."

+ Today's Reading: Isaiah 44:1-8、21-23

1 Yet listen now, Jacob my servant,
and Israel, whom I have chosen.

2 This is what Yahweh who made you,
and formed you from the womb,
who will help you says:
"Don't be afraid, Jacob my servant;
and you, Jeshurun, whom I have chosen.

3 For I will pour water on him who is thirsty,
and streams on the dry ground.
I will pour my Spirit on your descendants,*or, seed
and my blessing on your offspring:

4 and they will spring up among the grass,
as willows by the watercourses.

5 One will say, 'I am Yahweh's;'
and another will be called by the name of Jacob;
and another will write with his hand 'to Yahweh,'
and honor the name of Israel."

6 This is what Yahweh, the King of Israel,
and his Redeemer, Yahweh of Armies, says:
"I am the first, and I am the last;
and besides me there is no God.

7 Who is like me?
Who will call,
and will declare it,
and set it in order for me,
since I established the ancient people?
Let them declare the things that are coming,
and that will happen.

8 Don't fear,
neither be afraid.
Haven't I declared it to you long ago,
and shown it?
You are my witnesses.
Is there a God besides me?
Indeed, there is not.
I don't know any other Rock."

21 Remember these things, Jacob and Israel;
for you are my servant.
I have formed you.
You are my servant.
Israel, you will not be forgotten by me.

22 I have blotted out, as a thick cloud, your transgressions,
and, as a cloud, your sins.
Return to me, for I have redeemed you.

23 Sing, you heavens, for Yahweh has done it!
Shout, you lower parts of the earth!
Break out into singing, you mountains, O forest, all of your trees,
for Yahweh has redeemed Jacob,
and will glorify himself in Israel.
